After Saddam destroyed it? We had nothing to do with that, right?

I know, W was the greatest president since Lincoln, probably the best ever.

First of all DMarks, there was no reason to go into Iraq besides W wanting to settle a score with Saddam's half baked assasination attempt on father George (who I think was a fair and decent man, and a great Commander in Chief, but ran into trouble on the domestic front).

Now Saddam, and his sons are dead. This is the real reason for the war in Iraq. There was no link to Bin Laden, 9/11, WMD's. All of that was a scam.

Afghanistan is where the people who sucker punched us on 9/11 came from. This is where we should have concentrated on, IMHO.

Iraq, by some estimates will finally wind up costing the US taxpayer $3,000,000,000,000 dollars. Three tillion, 12 zeros.
I find it laughable that Bush and co. are harping about deficet spending when we had a surplus before they got ahold of things.

Bush may not be the worst ever president, but he is the worst since I have been alive.

I wonder if 9/11, the Iraq war, and the current recession (depression in Michigan) would have happened if the rightful winner in 2000 (Al Gore) had won. Obviously, we can only speculate. I'm sure you will paint a worst case scenario of that while at the same time whitewashing the last eight years.

Is the stimulus working? Maybe. It's a bit early to tell at this point. Centainly, Michigan has many problems facing it that would have been much worse had GM and Chrysler been allowed to completly implode.

Then again, this is cleaning up the mess left by the piror administration, at whose feet the blame centainly lies for our current situation.

I have hope that Obama and his team will right the ship of state, but it will not happen overnight. By next year hope to see more positive signs in the economy as a whole, but fear that Michigan will not benefit very much. Leaders of both parties are inept, impotent, ineffectual, and incompetent (that's a lot of i's!).

As an independent, I can equally condemn both parties and feel no obligation to defend something that is BS just because my party was behind it.

I'm sorry DMarks, but you are totally wrong about Saddam and Iraq. Saddam was not a terrorist kingpin. How quickly you forget that he was basically on our side until pissing off the Saudis by invading Kuwait. There was little threat to anybody from Saddam outside of Iraq.

Even if the Iraq war only costs us a trillion, that is still money better spent on America and not on Iraq.

As for the 2000 election: I will always believe that the rightful winner was cheated out of the election by the rightwingers on the Supreme Court, whatever mental gymnastics you perform to try and convince me otherwise.

Carter I agree was not a very good president. W. was STILL WORSE.

Likewise, we could debate forever the cause of 9/11, but I feel that the ending of the Israeki/Palestinian negotiations by Bush after taking office had a lot to do with forcing the issue.

At least you concede that Katrina was an utter failure by the administration.

Just because I don't agree with you does not mean I am a Leftie Liberal. I'm a veteran and have voted for many Republicans in the past. Maybe I'm a RINO (then again, being called a Republican holds no appeal to me and never has). Have you served in the military? Or are you content to let others fight your battles for you?

Finally, you are crazy if you think that not bailing out GM and Chrysler would have no negative impact on Michigan. While I condemn W., I also condemn Grandholm as the worst governor of Michigan in my lifetime. So what do the Republicans do? Run an Evangelical from Grand Rapids. Look: Michiganders are not going to elect an extremist Christian to governor. Get a moderate or even a conservative and there is a chance. We tire of Biblethumpers in government. Especially ones like Snaford and Ensign. Who will be the next one?

Let's let this go because I tire of this argument. You will not change my view, nor I yours.

Evidently, some people do not get the hint.
