I just got a WACOM Intuos 4 medium drawing tablet and I am learning how to use it. The one thing that I really like about it is that I can colorize black and white drawings with it like this one.
Black and white now becomes color!

I've been looking at a Wacom tablet also. Trying to use a mouse to paint with is like typing with boxing gloves on. I'm curious to know what you think.

Oliver-You just have got to get one! The Intuos 4 is wonderful. I got the medium, but wirking with photos you could probably get away with a small tablet. If you want portability go for the small. The difference in price is $120 or so US. If you will be using it w/ a desktop PC I'd go for the bigger one.
For retouching photos, it comes w/ Photoshop Elements7. For drawing, you get to pick either Autodesk Sketchpad basic or Corel Sketchpad (my choice and what I used to color this with).
